Sustainability has ceased to be a peripheral concept to become a central axis in decision-making in business organizations. In a global context marked by the climate crisis, resource scarcity, and growing social pressure for responsible practices, companies face the challenge of integrating sustainability into their operational, financial, and innovation strategies. Thus, this concept has become a paradigm that redefines business models and demands a rethinking of the relationships between companies, the communities in which they operate, and the environment from which they extract resources.

The aim of this special issue is to explore how sustainability is transforming decision-making in the business environment, from the adoption of clean technologies to the implementation of circular economy models and product lifecycle assessments. We invite scholars, researchers, and practitioners to reflect on the opportunities this new paradigm presents for their research, as well as to propose research articles that promote strategies that enable business organizations to adapt to an increasingly demanding environment in terms of sustainability.

The topics discussed in this issue include (but are not limited to) the following lines of research:

  • Circular economy and its impact on business competitiveness.
  • Sustainability strategies in supply chain management.
  • Technological innovation to reduce the environmental footprint in industrial processes.
  • Sustainable business models.
  • The role of public policies in promoting business sustainability.
  • Sustainability and corporate social responsibility: integration into business strategy.
  • Sustainability indicators and their application in decision-making.
  • Digital transformation and sustainability: synergies and challenges.

We cordially invite proposals that contribute to collective reflection and help address the challenges facing current business management.

In this regard, Retos: Journal of Management Sciences and Economics particularly values empirical work based on representative samples and robust statistical models. These contributions are expected to offer significant contributions to the central theme of the special issue, strengthening academic debate and developing knowledge in the field.
